Limiting varients to characteristics

Hello

So I have 2 fabrics: 1 Linen, 1 Cotton
Linen comes in: beige, black, cream and toupe
Cotton comes in: wine and lime green

I have set up Characteristics and, in variants, allocated which fabrics are available in each colour.
No problem

However, in the front-end, when the user selects the fabric, they are still presented with a choice of all colours.

When the client chooses a fabric and colour combination that doesn't exist: the words 'no stock' appear under the characteristic drop box. (where the add to cart button goes if the combination is available)

What I would like is for only the colours that are available in that selected fabric to be shown as options.

Is that possible?
