How to add a link to the Customer Email

I've tried to find this in the Forum, the documentation, I've looked at Custom Fields. This is a very simple issue I think.

I simply need to provide a different link per product (they are books) in the email which the users get when purchase is confirmed.

This is because they will go to this link, add their Hikaserial code and download the book.

So it's not a different link for every purchase, just one per book. i.e.

Book 1 - link = www.book1link.com
Book 2 - link = www.book2link.com
...etc

Thanks.

Hello,

The link to your products files should already be displayed through "Order status notification" email sent to your customers when your order status is "confirmed".

Note that you can also enable the displaying of the "Download area" which will be displayed through your customer space using the "Enable customer download area" through the page "Hikashop->System->Configuration->Display".

Best regards,
Mohamed Thelji.

Sorry Mohamed I didn't explain very well.

I simply need to add an external URL to the customer emails.

One external (not Hikashop) link per book.

The books are hosted with a remote service in the UK, not on our website. SO we have to supply the correct link to click to the customer.

Is it possible to add URLs to be shown in the customer emails ?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi,

Then you could configure a custom field of the table "product" via the menu Display>custom fields of the type "link" and configure it to be displayed in the emails and not on the frontend. Then, you could enter that link in each product in the custom field and it would display for each product in the emails to the customer.

Hi Nicolas I followed your advice and:

* Set up Custom Field of type Link.
* Set to Front-end 'No'
* Added a link to the 'Link' Custom Field in the Variant of my product.
* Purchased the product and changed order status to Confirmed.

Confirmation email does not show the link.

Please see the attached screenshots.

Is it perhaps because this is the 'Printable Download' Variant of my product ?

Thanks again for your help.
Paul

Hi,

In the settings page of the custom field, you're supposed to have many settings for the display of the custom field in the emails.
These are not present on your screenshot.
That means that you're using an old version of HikaShop which doesn't support the display of the custom product fields on the emails.
So you would have either to update and activate the display settings of your custom field for the emails, or you would have to customize the code of the emails via the menu System>Emails and add custom code of your own to display the custom field value there yourself.

Hi Nicolas, you're right, I'm using HS 2.6.0 on this site, I will install 3.4.0 instead.

I guess I should update Hikaserial too, to 2.1.1 As it is now on 1.10.3 ?

Hi,

Yes, updating HikaSerial will also be necessary.
Note that updating from 2.6.0 to 3.4.0 is a big leap, even more so if you customized the display of HikaShop on the frontend.
So I would recommend to first do the updates on a copy of the website in order to make sure that everything is still ok before doing it on your live website.
