Hi,

I have the shop categories displayed under a main men item and when I browse through the categories to a product the breadcrumbs display the path to the product as I would expect...

However I also have a module on the home page to display "Best Sellers", if I click on the same product from the home page the breadcrumbs don't show the categories ...

How can I get the second breadcrumb to look like the first?

I have configured the home page module with the shop menu item and set the canonical URL for the product.

Thanks,

Ian

Hi,
The solution will probably be to configured your module's "menu" option to Drawing and Illustration for example, ut note that you'll probably find more information through this thread :

You won't be able to get the category tree in the breadcrumb from a module (that is not without modifying core files of hikashop). The breadcrumb principle is to display the path the user followed to come to a page. Since a module is directly on the template, there is no navigation information which is why it just display the "previous_page" in the breadcrumb.

Thanks for the reply Mohamed but that wouldn't work as the "Best Sellers" module can show products from any category so no one menu option would work.

I've looked at the thread you've directed me to but there's nothing there that helps me. I understand the logic that breadcrumbs show the route the user takes to a product, so if you click on a product on the home page the breadcrumbs would show

home->product

or if I change the menu option in the module to "shop" I can get as far as

shop->product

but I think user expectation is that the breadcrumb would show the category hierarchy

->shop->category->sub-category->product

Here is an example from ebuyer where I've clicked on a product featured on the home page ...

and another from tesco, the route to the product was via their special offers page but when I clicked on the product itself the breadcrumbs changes to show the category heirachy

The big advantage to this from a shopping point of view is that if the user clicks on a featured product from the home page but it's not quite what they want they can use the breadcrumbs to step back up to the category and browse other products. The way breadcrumbs work in Hikashop at the moment makes this impossible.

I hope the Hikashop approach to this can be changed to match user expectations. I am forming a "love / hate" relationship with Hikashp. Most things I really love about it but there are odd things in the logic of how it's constructed that have me tearing my hair out and have cost me a lot of time, so I hope you can help on this one!

Many thanks,

Ian

Hi,
I don't think that you'll be able to do that without some code customization,Hikashop use the Joomla breadcrumb module which allows you to only keep track of your location, so you won't be able to do that without some code customization which will require some development skills.
Note that you can also use the section " commercial jobs " in this forum in order to be contacted by external developers.

Hello,
In fact it's already developped (in the latest hikashop at this date)
In the module hikashop option, you can make a like with the menu and the sub catagories etc ...
And restore your breadcrumbs with the sub categories, it also works with joomla's {loadposition} option.
It's only a question of menu and link after that.
Best regards
