Menu Items

-- HikaShop version -- : 2.6.0

Could someone please point me in the right direction for understanding how HikaShop works with menu items? I am currently using the Category menu item, but would also like to be able to assign modules to sub-categories and product pages.

Is this done using the menu items in the HikaShop default menu?

Can I also set up a menu item for the categories individually and have them override the default?

I'm really just looking to gain a complete understanding of best practice for this within HikaShop, and wondered if someone could tell me the best place to look? I'm having a hard time learning how to use HikaShop by searching the forums. Lots of things don't seem to be discussed or apply to old versions, and the user manual takes the approach of explaining the interface, so things like this aren't easy to find if they are there.

I'm also wondering if I'm missing some resource other than the forums and the user manual?

I'd be happy to pay for help but nobody seems to be available for that either.

Hi,

A menu item can have several pages. That's how categories listing menu items work.
You have one menu item and the pages it generates differ when you click on the categories or the products.
So you can't configure modules to display on some pages and not others for the same menu item by default with the Joomla modules manager. In that case, you need to use the extension Advanced Modules manager for that.

You can also create child menu items for each category and then enter the URL of the child menu item in its corresponding category's canonical URL. When the "force canonical URLs on listing" setting is activated, you'll get the link of the sub menu item corresponding to the category you clicked on on the main categories listing and you'll be able to display or not the modules based on the sub menu items. But it's a lot more work to setup than simply using Advanced Modules manager.
