Upgrading to the latest joomla version seems to have broken my hikashop category listings. In this post, I described that module id disappeared from the product listing under my category listing menu item.

After upgrading joomla to 3.8.11, the entire module is missing. In the working version of the site, the html looks like

Where the submodules are missing completely. The confusing thing is that some category listing pages are working.

Stranger still, when I try to recreate the product category listing, the category listing settings have no impact on the new menu item. It always shows the top level category and the page title is "product category". This even happens when I clone the working menu item shown above.
My site is heavily customized (thus the old version of hikashop), so I haven't tried newer versions of hikashop. Are there known problems with categories in hikashop 3.2.1 with newer versions of joomla?
