In the next release a recurring payment solution will be present with a new paypal plugin. Each monthly invoice would be presented for a different amount depending on the month's work, and the customer would be given an option to pay it online with either Authorize.net or PayPal. A plugin could be made to achieve that I think. I ended up creating a separate article and using the Authorize.net Simple Checkout button. You have to use the "Donate" setting in order to allow the client to enter a custom amount, but we created a custom button image and added the code to it so it doesn't say Donate.
