As it messed up the CSS of the design, I rolled it back with a Cpanel backup of the site and database. I've also had a colleague test the site on his system and he's experiencing both of the same problems. Any other ideas? What is the URL of the edit profile link when you turn off the Joomla SEF ? You'll have to modify the place where that link is generated (apparently the profile page of the joomla user system) in order to add the Itemid of a joomla user profile edition type menu item that you would create via the joomla menu manager and that should probably help avoid the redirect back to the profile page.
