From what I can see category is used to determine product grouping in front end and backend. From what i can see the "Brand" field is used for the front end product grouping by Brand, the back-end uses Brand category. My thinking from the tally error is that there is an indexing issue, because it is correct elsewhere. *** In this image you can see the "Shop by Category" and "Shop by brand". The total count for "Machines" is too low by 2. Should say 24. The total count for "Mask Accessories" is too low by 1. Should say 31. Brand "Fisher & Paykel" is too low by 3, should say 24. Because if some products are in sub categories, it can change the value of the count for the current category.
