On installing Hikashop I get the message "Error building Admins Menu" and Hikashop does not appear under the Components menu in the Backend as it has done in the past. Regards, Chris.")* That's a bug in joomla 1.6 actually. That's why it happens to you for other components as well. Prior to installing an extension, you should go in your phpmyadmin and open the table jos_menus and delete the entries corresponding to your component. Then, the install should work.
