We tested updates of tens of widgets and didn't had any problem with them. Of course we can't test everything. Most of the display options of the configuration/menus/modules have also been changed to handle heritage. This is by far the biggest update we ever made. Note that our updates so far are not security updates. If you don't have any issues with them and don't need the new features, you don't have to update. And if you do, like for anything you do on your live website you should first try them on a copy of your website. But yes, there is room for improvement. We are thinking of having an open beta period before stable releases in the future in order to reduce such issues.
