Any new item have 3 characteristics: material, size and coating, together - it's a lot of data. I can't edit it for each product i will finish it in a new century. I can copy any new product and edit it, but in this case - i will need to correct everything again if i need to change, for example price for coating #1 in size #2 in all goods. How i can create a global variant and then attach it (with all prices) for any product i need? For example i have wood carved icons - everything have 3 sorts of wood, 2 coating method and 12 sizes. I create a global variant, where in each parameters write additional price (+110%, + 130% and etc) and final price depends on base price ($100) + % from global variant. Something like this...")* I would suggest prepare your products in Excel/Calc and import them using CSV Import. Using this method one my client filled eshop with 200 products and 10000 variants in one day. Create demo site, add one product with variants, export it to CSV to see columns and data structure. Delete columns you don't need. Prepare template for variants. If all products have the same variants you can paste it under main product row, fill "parent_id" column with drag down function in Excel and customize price, product_id...etc. Then save as csv, import it and verify the result.
