It will not update the fields that you deleted in the csv file. If you have products with characteristics, you'll have to keep the product_parent_id column as it links the variants with the main product. Click "New" fill in description. Click on "Product" or "Category" Product is already selected. Go to the "Filter then select "Product Type" Goto "Action" select "Export Csv" now you need to click on "Process". This should Export the file.
