I can't seem to get my head around how the hell it all links together, I have hand-drawn diagrams, read the tutorial multiple times, etc. Bloody confusing to me! I even copied all the modules and menus from the demo page .. no luck.. Anyway, the further I got was for the module to show "javascript:void(0);" when you mouse over it, and a clicky hand to go with it. But clicking the links does nothing?! So your module is displaying a listing of categories which are not clickable with sub categories not displayed as you don't have any. Thus, it's not doing anything. Otherwise, please give more information. So clicking on "Cricket bats" would then show the different products in that category.
