However, the system bases itself on the country of the user in order to know if the user VAT number should be checked or not (Only customers with their address in the European Union will have their VAT numbers checked). So that's probably why it doesn't perform any check as the system believes that it is not needed. We even use it on our website. Regarding the notice message, it's not important. You can just turn off the "error reporting" setting of the Joomla configuration (it should be turned off anyway). Please check it there: [ ec.europa.eu/taxation\_customs/vies/](http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/) That's the official registry for VAT numbers in Europe and HikaShop uses that database.
