We use it ourselves on our own website with a SSL certificate too. So the problem is likely not in the code of the plugin. The error message you have indicates that the "file_get_content" on the URL "[ www.google.com/recaptcha/api/siteverify](https://www.google.com/recaptcha/api/siteverify)" is not working properly and it return no content at all.
