Tutorials are notoriously difficult to write. It is a catch 22. On the one hand, in order to write them you need to know your product and procedures inside and out. YET the more you are familiar with your product and how to do things, the less likely you are to even consider the possibility that someone new may do something different. So it is harder to explain the proper way clearly to a new-comer because it never occurs to you that they would treat the interface a certain way. You only know the correct way to use it. The fact that newbies like myself, even having read your present tutorials still struggle, is an indication that there is still some ambiguity and misunderstanding of phrases or procedures while trying to learn how to do things. To a large extent it is comments and questions from newbies like myself that when showing you how 'blind' we are, enable you to put up even better 'brail' sign posts to help us learn. I sell downloadable software and I use the HikaShop system to provide my customers access to the download link thru their order page. This works well for website-direct customers. However, I need to start working with distributors/resellers in order to expand my business, and here's the rub. The distributor will close his deal with the customer, take the money and then place a discounted order on my site, so far so good. But it's the end-user who needs a login and download rights. I did actually install it yesterday, but during the configuration process, I deleted too many tax zones. So, I tried to reinstall hikashop to add them back. The system worked for several minutes, then came back to the joomla extension installation screen. No changes were made. I then tried uninstalling hikashop to start over and received several errors about not being able to delete several modules and menus. Next, I deleted all hikashop tables from the database and any reference in the extension table. Upon reinstallation, the system worked for several minutes, then came back to the installation screen. Hikashop is not installed, and no changes are made to the joomla database. I have one question before I ask my client to buy the Essential version, and one 'yes please' Firstly, can you confirm that I can completely ignore registration/login with the Essential version? My shop is simple. I want someone to be able to add an item to their cart, choose their shipping method, and then checkout via PayPal. Secondly, a vote for item specific shipping costs. I know this is on the 'to do' list, so I thought I'd mention it too as the one thing I really would like. Anyway, great job. When I've got used to it even more I hope you don't mind if I post some ideas/suggestions. I think the default wording (i know i can override the wording myself) in the core extension should be changed. I have found a bug. When I have more than a few files or images (than the 5 or so that I was accidentally generating) in the folder and click on 'Import' the screen goes to the IE message: Page cannot be presented. I had around 20 jpeg files in the folder. The size of the ones I imported as files was around 6 mb, the ones I imported as images were 60 kb. I then use the back button, or close the tab and re-open my Joomla admin to navigate to the products which are there and work perfectly.") Since shortly, buyers MUST register to checkout while before it was possible that a buyer can order something without registering. I don't want tons of registered users to my website because it's just a private website and I chose Hikashop because with it I could put up my fleamarket really easily. Because of this change, Hikashop became essentially useless to me which means, i have to deinstall it and install some other shop system and put all the stuff in again. I don't have much hope that it will happen but I would still like to put up a feature request to make this parameter available in the free version again. It's always REALLY bad to move options that used to be free to a paid version. And at least I am not going to spend over 100€ just to sell a few things that I don't need any more. Edit: Besides the time for putting the stuff in, I also spend considerable time adjusting the CSS to my site. All in all, I'm very disappointed! REALLY bad style!") As I said, we never removed any feature from the Starter edition to move it to the commercial editions. That would be against what we believe.
