Only the main product is linked to categories. So, the problem is not the action, which, by itself, works as well on products as on variants. The problem here is the filter, which automatically discard all the variants. You would have to use a filter on the product_parent_id column where you could enter the id of the main product. That would automatically filter the entries to only keep the variants of that product. You would have to change the operator from "=" to "regex" and then you could use a regex in the input field, like: Code: (123|456|789) where 123, 456 and 789 are three product ids. And you can add as many ids as you want in the regex.
