The customer wants to charge Ohio sales tax. In System/Taxes, I set my zone as Ohio. I assigned Ohio a tax rate of 5.75%. I assigned "Ohio" to "default tax category." I assigned all products to "default tax category." Then in System/Configuration/Main I also set "Ohio" as my zone. Why is tax not showing or collected? I have tried to understand the documentation but it is somewhat confusing. I'd like to suggest that you walk in our shoes and envision some common scenarios; and offer some simple step-by-step tutorials. Still, I do love Hikashop and intend to continue as a customer. Now, when you do a fresh install of HikaShop (first time you install it on a joomla website), you get a wizard screen with the basic settings that you can configure before starting using HikaShop. Among them are a few fields regarding your country/state and tax and the wizard will then setup everything properly for you. No need to create tax rules or anything anymore unless you need complex tax rules. I don't have any access for that website so I can't check your settings but it's probably an issue with the way you setup your tax rule. Publish it via the menu System>Taxes and it should work. But turns out to be really simple once you understand the concepts. You create a tax category. The one that comes installed is called "default." Then you create tax rate. I would also call it "default" to keep it simple. Then you add the default tax rate to the default tax category. You make sure that any product you want to tax has its configuration settings set to "default tax category." Now the tax will be applied. You will be able to see it in the price settings of the product after you save. Hikashop also has the ability add tax zones with custom-tailored rates for customers who live with the zone. So, in my default tax category, I add some zones. Say, for example, Wisconsin. Now I set the rate for the Wisconsin zone as 3%. Anybody from Wisconsin who makes a purchase will be charged 3% tax. The problem there, though, is that Wisconsin people will be double taxed. They will pay the default tax rate AND another 3% for Wisconsin. This to me is a bug. When you establish a zone, it should override the default tax rate. But I have found that it doesn't. The zone rate is charged additionally. So, I appreciate the added functionality. But it's quite difficult to administer. I hope the Hika Support will read this and correct me if wrong. Also, I hope this has been helpful. -Jim G. I...")* The tax rules can both add up (necessary for Canada) or override each other (necessary for almost everywhere else) based on the "Cumulative tax" option of your tax rules. So no, it's not a bug, it just depends on how you setup your tax rules, and that setting is actually turn off by default when you create new tax rules so that the taxes override one another like it should be for most parts of the world.
