On the user himself can pay for an order via the "pay" pay of the order on his orders listing page on the frontend. Being able to trigger it from the backend would require code customization. But during the discussion an issue arose. In the UK (not sure about other countires) some customers have signed up to Verified by Visa, which requests an additional set of characters from a password before processing the payment. This would prevent any 'over the phone' orders via the website as without knowing this Verified by Visa password the order cannot be completed. I'm sure some security conscious customers would not want to reveal this password, as once it is revealed then it could lead to security issues and possible fraud issues. Thanks.")* Hi, In France, the Verified by Visa (and the same from Mastercard) sends a text message to the cell phone linked to the credit card and you have to enter that number on the screen presented by the payment gateway. So since the number is unique to each transaction, it would work even with these systems. But yes if the number is really secret and doesn't change, then you can't ask it to your customers over the phone. Thanks.")* Adding a note here, in case anyone is interested in Admins being able to order on behalf of customers (for example, taking phone orders). We recently completed a customization for one of our larger clients that allows a super user to checkout on the frontend on behalf of an existing customer. or create a new customer as part of the checkout flow. In this way you can use all of the normal checkout processes for things like credit card payments, shipping calculations, etc., handled all on the frontend. Yet you can also add custom fields, shipping and payment methods that are only available to super admins as well, and take orders "on account", override normal shipping quotes, etc. We built a custom modal view as the first step of checkout, which displays only for super admins. It allows you to create a new Customer or select an existing one, and at the end of checkout everything goes through for the customer, just the same as if they were creating it themselves. For this client, new customers are automatically registered in Joomla and sent a login to welcome them (but if you only do guest checkout, that could be adapted as well).
