Paypal Smart buttons

Can Paypal Smart buttons be integrated into the Paypal payment method? If yes, how can I do this?

Not really.
The "smart buttons" mechanism uses another API of PayPal that the API implemented in the standard HikaShop PayPal payment plugin. Another payment plugin would have to be developed for it. However, smart buttons are to be used for websites where you don't have an ecommerce solution like HikaShop, and you can just copy/paste the code of the button provided by PayPal to accept payments. With an ecommerce solution, you want to link the payment to an order, confirm the order status after the payment, store the transaction ID with the order, etc. The smart buttons API is not what I would recommend to use for all that.
Note however that the interface offered by these buttons should be quite similar to the interface you get when you're redirected to PayPal by the standard plugin, so I'm not sure why you want to use smart buttons ?
