I am having a great deal of trouble finding relevant information on how to do this.
There is a glut on information on how to do this using the old (pre 2.6) system where you would access content module via the Display Panel in the Hikashop Component. However, in version 2.6, I understand this was changed and this facility is now achieved through the Joomla Menu system, but there are no clear instructions that I can find on how to create a side menu using post 2.6 Hikashop. All of the forum and dis cussions details on this are pre version 2.6
Can anyone point me in the right direction for a tutorial on this? It should be a very quick and simple exercsise, but I am going around in circles owing to the inaccurate / out of date information on this.
Thanks

Hi,

There is no need to do anything normally because it's been 2 years now that there is already such side menu configured by default when you install HikaShop. You just need to go in the Joomla modules manager, and enable the "categories on 2 levels" module and it should display the categories on the side. And if you went through the install wizard, that module is even enabled automatically unless you unchecked it so in most cases it's already there. That's why there are not much recent information about that since that should already be there by default when you install HikaShop.
The information you'll find is to recreate that side menu if you deleted it. You need to go in the Joomla modules manager and create a new module of the type HikaShop content module, and configure its HikaShop options to display the categories like you want.

I couldn't get the module to display, after creating the categories, until I configured the module to read:

Only with Products - No (this is under Category Data Display)

It defaulted to "yes," meaning that categories only display if they have products assigned to them.

Second question - now that my categories and subcategories are displaying, how do I get them to "drop down" like in the Hikashop Demo, where you only see the subcategories when you click on the category name? I really like the dropdown featured in the demo, where you only see the main categories, then when you click on them, it opens up displaying a list of the subcategories. That feature is one of the main reasons I chose and purchased Hikashop. But now I can't figure out how to activate that dropdown feature. Can you point me in the right direction to do that?

Hi
Thanks for your reply.
I can assure you that I didn't uncheck this option on installation.
Also, I cannot find any module entitled "categories on 2 levels" in Joomla Modules. This is a new site I am building and I am 100% sure that I haven't deleted any Hikashop related modules since starting work on this.
So since the module you refer to is not there, and I have tried to build one using the Hikashop content module previously (but not succeeded), can I please ask for more detail as to how to do this? Your instruction to "configure Hikashop" is such a generalised instruction that I am none the wiser. I have read and re-read and triple-read the tutorials for content modules, but I am no closer to achieving building a Category sidebar menu. I would give you login details for you to check but I am currently building the site on localhost so this is not possible.
I might also say tha if someone had decided not to use the the 'categories on 2 levels' module on installation, but later changed their mind, they would need guidance as to how to achieve this? And that guidance is missing at present.
Thanks

Hi,

@CarrieWrigley
Have your module configured as on our demo website and you'll have the same accordion system:

@Saunders
Even if you decide to not use the "categories on 2 levels" module during the installation, the module is still created. And you just need to enable it. So there usually is no need for such instructions.
But if you want, here is a screenshot of how that module is configured by default in HikaShop:
take.ms/Gg0oD
So just configure a new HikaShop content module in the same way and it will display the same.

If you have issues with following a tutorial, you can provide a link to the page with the problem and the screenshots of what you did and we should be able to tell you what you're missing.
