We're a non-profit organization. Can we use HikaShop for online donations? This requires that users specify the amount of money that they want donate - we don't fix the price.

Also: does HikaShop support recurring payments?

Thanks in advance...

No and no, unfortunately. Both options are not possible with HikaShop.
That's long term features.

Why would you need a shop to do that?

Paypal provides all those tools.

The last time I checked, PayPal's tools required our donors to use a page in PayPal's domain that PayPal designed. What I am looking for is a solution that is totally contained within our website. That was a while back - PayPal may now offer what I want. I didn't check.

I think I found one, by the way, using the Joomla Extensions Directory.

Being able to specify a price for users is something useful for example for gift certificates where the buyers can set the price he wants to pay to give to his friend.
Recurring payment can be used in normal shops for subscriptions or payments in several times.

Paypal indeed provides those tools but paypal does not integrate with Joomla, it just handles the payment. If you want to do something more complicated than just a payment button, it can make sense to use an e-commerce tool.

I suggested paypal as in my understanding donation=paypal. You will get many more donations here and there by using it as users preffer to use an e-wallet to throw a few bucks your way than to charge their credit card.

Unless you want to over complicate your website, there are plenty of small modules already existing for this kind of things ..

So the official word is that I cannot create a product that will do recurring billing with paypal or authorize.net at all with HikaShop?
I guess there is no way to specify the frequency, so how could it work?

Yes. HikaShop does not handle recurring payments.
You could always change HikaShop's code for that but we can't help you... We don't know yet how we can handle it and didn't look at it. HikaShop won't support recurring payments anytime soon. That's not in our short term goals.

Hello
I see it is already something you guys have for the future and I can accomplish my tasks in other ways.
For now, keep making the great extension! I haven't deployed on a production site but I love all the features and the upgradability.
Finding myself very happy that I chose to install HikaShop instead of VirtueMart!
Keep up the great work!

This thread is over 4 years old. Is there any change to this yet? Is it possible to accept donations through the store yet? The site does not use PayPal, and does require the shop in order to purchase other items (events, training, products) for the site.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated

Hi,

Yes it is possible, you have to enable the plugin "HikaShop Donation plugin".
In its settings you can change the custom field name or the tax rules.

Then you have to create a custom item field named "amount" (default setting of the plugin, else use the indicated name), and restrict its display for the desired product, for example a previously created "donation" product.

And job is done ;)
