Cart disappears when adding product.

Is there any reason the cart text would disappear when I add 1 item but then return when there are 2 or more items?

That's because you have a translation override of the translation key X_ITEM_FOR_X to not display any text in the cart instead of the standard "%s item for %s" of the default english translation file when there is one item in the cart.
