Product Page Image Settings

Is there any way that I can have the product image full sized on the product page, but thumbnail sized on the product list?

Yes. You can keep the thumbnails activated in the configuration. Then, edit the file show of the view product via the menu Display->Views and change the line:
if(!$this->config->get('thumbnail')){

to:
if(true){

(there are two places where you need to change that line in the file)
