We are building a shop that sells garments among other things.
One of the examples I have been given by my client is the way jCrew and liveisgood.com display their size choice in the product display.
Instead of displaying it as the usual drop down/radio or checkbox, these two sites display it as a grid and picking the correct size in the grid obviously submits it to hikashop for processing.
Here are a couple of examples. In both take a look at the way the sizer of the garment is presented and the way it works.
How difficult would this be to implement on Hikashop? Would be even be worth it pursuing? I have to say it makes for a more attractive display and breaks the monotony of the usual drop downs and the ugliness (as well as the messy look) of the radio buttons.
Here is the link to lifeisgood: www.lifeisgood.com/men/tees-and-tops/gri...usher-tee-27257.html
and here is jcrew: www.jcrew.com/browse/multi_product_detai...LAotj&bmLocale=en_BE
In both you'll see that a plain grid substitutes for the usual radio/checkbox.drop down form elements. I like this look too, but since each product is going to have a somewhat different list of choices, it is not something I can just drop in the "view" and use for every product.
I'd appreciate a few hints about how this is done. Thanks you.

Hi there,
I indeed looks good.
However, to do something like this in Hikashop you will have to add some code.
We generate the variant dropdow in the file administrator/components/com_hikashop/types/characteristic.php (look for this line: $main_html = '<table class="hikashop_product_characteristics_table">'
.
If you have some coding skills you should be able to replace the code (or add an option) to display the variants in a different way. Note that the page will reload as Hikashop handle multiple description and pictures (which doesn't seems to be the case on the website you linked).
If you don't have the necessary skills do not hesitate to ask on our commercial job forum!

Thank you. We have the skills in house, but we are just learning Hikashop insofar as these things are concerned.
We'll give it a shot and see what we can come up with. In the longer term, it would be nice to have something like this being part of the cart. It is far more elegant than the old dropdown list or, even worse, the radio buttons. Then latter are always a nightmare to display properly.
