Width of variant menu

Some of my variants have very long names (as long as 50 characters). The drop-down menu (see attached screen shot), when activated, is wide enough to show the full length of all variant names. But, when they let go and the variant is selected, only part of it shows. (See attached screen shot).

I have looked everywhere including on this forum to see how to make the drop-down wider, so that after they select the variant, the full variant displays. Is this a matter of a CSS specification? If so, what would I put in the CSS file?
