Error 404: when clicking on "add to cart" button

After installing the free version of Hikashop and following the documentation, when I click on the "add to cart" button for my first product it takes me to a page that says:

"404 - Component not found

You may not be able to visit this page because of:

1. an out-of-date bookmark/favourite
2. a search engine that has an out-of-date listing for this site
3. a mistyped address
4. you have no access to this page
5. The requested resource was not found.
6. An error has occurred while processing your request.

Please try one of the following pages:

* Home Page

If difficulties persist, please contact the System Administrator of this site.

Component not found"

with the url of ".../checkout"

I've gone over the documentation and I can't see that I've done anything wrong. Am I missing a step?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Are your SEF options properly configured in joomla ? Did you change the htaccess.txt file to .htaccess via FTP ?

I'm having the same problem. Since last time that we have done changes I have done anything at the site. Yesterday night i've uploaded products but today will testing i'm getting this error. I've changed the htaccess.txt to .htaccess but nothing. Is really weird to get this error suddenly.

If you have cache and SEF, sometimes, you can get strange behaviors like this popping out of the blue. Is that the case? Could you tell us th URL of the website where you have the problem so that we can have a look ?

Just tested again and works fine. But why has such behaviour? Would it be most of time? Or was just accidental?

I see that you don't have any SEF activated on your website. So the problem is definitely different from the problem brad had even though the error is the same.
Next time you have it, please make a screenshot of the problem and note the URL on your web browser. That will give us more information.

when i'm activating sef, the problem becomes worst I can't even see the first page. I havent tested again since my first post. But i think i will not for the moment

SEF is another problem
It needs to be configured properly but then, that error can come from several sources so it's hard to say more without more information.

What kind of info do you need?

If you help me first Please make a screenshot of the problem and note the URL on your web browser when you have the problem. We don't have yet any information on your problem apart from the fact that it's kind of random and that it's a 404 error. We can't tell you anything with just that info.

It's maybe a problem of cache. Do you have some cache activated ?
