Gift Certificate Custom Message

I purchased Hikashop Essential for a project and as we finish the site realized we need custom messages for gift certificate purchases. I poked around in the forum and all I can find made it appear as if this is only possible if I purchase HikaSerial. Is that the case - do I really have to purchase Hikashop Serial to get this one feature or is there a way using Essential?

HikaSerial includes a plugin called "attach serial" which work with the "serial" feature of HikaSerial. It allow to include an image in your email with some data including the serial generated by the system.

In your case, you want to display a custom message in the email, does this message would be always the same for all gift certificates ?
If so, an override of your email would be easier.

The custom message field would be for the person who purchases the gift certificate to fill in for the recipient - like "Happy Birthday" or "Congratulations". That message would be part of the printout the seller includes when mailing the gift certificate, right?

At this moment, you require an "item custom field" or an "order custom field".
It is a field (an input for most of cases) that the customer can fill in order to specify more information for his order.

You can user "order custom field" for a delivery date, you can use "item custom field" for "this product in the order is a gift".

The order/items custom fields are features from HikaShop business.
