Default parameters for DIVs in the configuration was created by MinnieMouse
in the configuration >display
is this setting:
Default parameters for DIVs
Type of item layout
responsible for the display of the list of products within a category? and if so shouldnt making changes to that setting change the way the list of products is displayed. mine has no effect.
help!

okay i see, i needed to change the menu item. but i am still unclear as to then why when i try to change the template category img_title nothing happens.

in the div display there is a choice of product or category display... i needed the product >listing_img_title template.

Yes, the default parameters in the configuration are only for new modules and menus. For existing ones, you can go in the menu Display->Content menus/modules where you will have the same options for each one of them.
