How do you make lasting changes to css?

I want to remove some things from frontend_default.css and have it last the update process. what is the best way for me to do that?

You should edit the front end CSS file via the Display tab of the configuration.
That will create an override css file that will be used instead of the default one and you won't loose your changes when you update HikaShop.
