how to add drop down menu with characteristics

Hi,

could you please help me how to add dropdown menu with characteristics to the product listing page. I would like my customer to be able to put product with characteristics directly from product display page into his cart without having to open the product page.

That's not possible.
Characteristics cannot be handled on the products listings.

Alternatively, if you don't need to handle price/quantity handling on a per variant basis, you could create custom item fields via the menu Display->Custom fields and turn on their display on your listings via the corresponding option of your menus/modules.
