How to add discount only on ONE variant?

Hi.

Im running Hikashop Business 2.4.0.

I want to add a discount ONLY on one of the three variants on a product (see link)
How is that done?

Hi,

There is no option to do that. You can try to edit the discount entry in the hikashop_discount table and enter the id of the variant from the hikashop_product table in the discount_product_id field via your phpmyadmin but it might not work as the system hasn't been made to handle discounts on variants.

I second that. This is a great feature and should be added.

Here is why:

We sell books on our website. Books can come in different formats/packages. For example: printed book, ebook, a package of both the printed book and ebook, used book, etc.

Historically we had different products in HikaShop for each variant. That was cumbersome to manage, and decided to switch to using a single HikaShop product with multiple variants. This makes management simple, and puts the end user buying experience more in line with how other online book sellers do it.

However, we have issues when it comes to coupons, as the coupon applies to the whole product and not a specific variant. Also, we can't manually create an order for someone in the backend and add a product with a specific variant. These are two major issues with the management of products going this way.

So on one hand having separate products for each variant works in those cases, but makes our management more time consuming and the end user experience not as nice. Or we can use a single product with variants and simplify our management and the end user experience, but make coupons difficult, as well as adding manual orders.

I think this is an area of HikaShop that needs some serious attention. We would be willing to pay to get this addressed in a more timely manner.

Id like to add my support for this feature and its quick implementation.

I sell software products that require a lot of variants based on combinations of operating system and development platform (ie Objective-C/Cocoa on Mac OS X, C++ on Linux, .NET on Windows, etc, you get the idea). Each variant sells into a specific market segment.

Another vote for this.

We're currently working on adding the support of variants in the new selection system so we should be able to add such variant selection in a few months.

Furthermore, we get a lot of questions about having the opportunity to add invoice to the confirmation order_email. I know there exists a plugin for this, but i really think you make this an option directly in the system as standard.

Hi,

The problem is that a PDF library is quite big, mainly because of the fonts necessary to support all the languages.
The PDF plugin we provide separately is bigger than all of HikaShop put together because of that.
So we don't want to include it mainly to avoid that problem.

Having a place with the discount applied to the product could be interesting yes. Thank you for your feedback.

Was this feature implemented? I haven't upgraded yet to 3.x.

It wasn't implemented yet.
We did add the support of variants in the new selection system last year but didn't activate it for the discount/coupon form as we didn't had the time yet to implement the loading and processing of the discounts/coupons for variants.
However, in the mean time, we've been redoing the cart and checkout systems from zero along many other cool things so the 3.x series is really interesting.

Yep, as a longtime user and developer providing clients with the Hikashop solutions - I too would really appreciate this feature. Please develop it Nick!

Thanks for your feedback. Now that HikaShop 3 is out and stable, that's high on my todo list !

There is a workaround I've found where I was asked to give one particular customer special pricing on only one variant. I created a special user group and added the customer to it ( under Joomla | users ) then in the variant pricing set up their unique price and set the ACL to their user group. When the customer is logged in they, and only they, see that price. May not work for everyone but it worked for me.
