Paytrail

This plugin lets your customers pay with Paytrail, the payment service most Finnish shops use: the Finnish online banks, MobilePay, cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna and Walley, on Paytrail's payment page. The money goes to your Paytrail account and the order is confirmed in your shop as soon as the customer has paid.

Features
  • Offers your customers every payment method of your Paytrail contract: OP, Nordea, Danske Bank, S-Pankki, Aktia, the savings banks and the other Finnish online banks, MobilePay, Siirto, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna and Walley.
  • Card numbers and bank logins never go through your shop: the customer pays on Paytrail's page, with 3-D Secure handled by Paytrail.
  • Confirms the order as soon as the customer has paid, even when they close the page before coming back to your shop: Paytrail tells your shop itself.
  • Confirms each order once and only once, and refuses any return or message that does not come from Paytrail for this order and this amount, so a payment cannot be faked.
  • Shows Paytrail's page in Finnish, Swedish or English, after the language of your shop.
  • Sends the products, shipping, payment fee and coupon of the order to Paytrail with their VAT rate, so your Paytrail settlement reports show what was sold.
  • Refunds the customer when you move the order to the refunded status. For the banks that cannot refund online, Paytrail refunds the customer by email.
  • Keeps an order whose payment Paytrail is still checking (a Walley company invoice, for instance) in the status of your choice until Paytrail gives the result.
  • Notes the payment, the bank or card used and the last digits of the card in the order history.
  • Works at once with Paytrail's test merchant, so you can try the whole checkout before your contract is signed.
How it works
  • 1. At the end of the checkout, the customer is sent to Paytrail's payment page, with the amount of the order.
  • 2. The customer chooses their bank, MobilePay, a card or an invoice there, and pays.
  • 3. Paytrail sends the customer back to your shop, which shows its thank you page, and also tells your shop directly that the order is paid.
  • 4. The order moves to your "Verified status", the customer gets the usual confirmation email, and the payment is noted in the order history.
  • 5. If the payment fails or the customer cancels it, the order moves to your "Invalid status" and the customer is back on your shop, free to try again.
Installation
  • 1) Sign Paytrail's contract for your shop (paytrail.com). Once the service is active, sign in to the Paytrail Merchant panel and choose "Merchant account" in the left-hand menu: your six-digit Merchant ID is shown there, and your Secret key appears when you press the eye icon next to it. To try the plugin first, use Paytrail's test merchant instead: Merchant ID 375917, Secret key SAIPPUAKAUPPIAS.
  • 2) Install this plugin on your Joomla or WordPress website: in Joomla with the extension installer, in WordPress with the "Install Plugin" button of HikaShop's payment plugins page.
  • 3) In HikaShop, go to System > Payment methods, click "New" and choose Paytrail.
  • 4) Type your Merchant ID and your Secret key, set "Published" to Yes, and save.
  • 5) Your shop has to show its prices in euros: Paytrail only takes euros.
  • 6) Your website should be served over HTTPS: Paytrail only tells shops on HTTPS that an order is paid. Nothing has to be set in the Paytrail Merchant panel for it: the address of your shop is sent with each payment.
Configuration
  • Merchant ID: the six-digit Merchant ID of your Paytrail account. With 375917, Paytrail's test merchant, no real payment is taken and the method shows "test mode" at the checkout. Left empty, the method cannot take payments.
  • Secret key: the Secret key that goes with your Merchant ID. Left empty or wrong, Paytrail refuses the payments and your customers see "The payment could not be started".
  • Return and callback URL: shown for information only. It is the address of your shop that Paytrail sends the customer back to and tells of each payment; it is sent with every payment, there is nothing to copy anywhere. A warning under it tells you when your site is not on HTTPS.
  • Payment page language: Automatic shows Paytrail's page in Finnish, Swedish or English after the language of your shop (English for the other languages). Choose Finnish, Swedish or English to always show that language.
  • Send the order lines: Yes sends the products, shipping, payment fee and coupon of the order to Paytrail with their VAT rate, for your settlement reports. Leave it on Yes; choose No only if you do not want the details of the orders sent to Paytrail.
  • Callback delay: how many seconds Paytrail waits after a payment before telling your shop, from 0 to 900. Leave it at 0: the order is confirmed once either way. Empty counts as 0.
  • Debug: Yes writes every exchange with Paytrail to the HikaShop payment log. Turn it on to look into a problem, then off again.
  • Pending payment status: the status of an order whose payment Paytrail has not settled yet, for instance a Walley company invoice being checked ("pending" by default). Left empty, such an order keeps its status until Paytrail gives the result.
  • Invalid status: the status of an order whose payment failed or was cancelled ("cancelled" by default). An order already paid or refunded is never moved to it. Left empty, the order keeps its status.
  • Verified status: the status of a paid order ("confirmed" by default). Choose the status that sends your customer the confirmation email.
  • Refunded status: moving an order to this status in the backend refunds what is left of its payment on Paytrail ("refunded" by default). Left empty, no refund is ever made from the shop.
  • The other settings of the page (name, description, images, price, zone, currency, restrictions) are the same as for every HikaShop payment method. A price adds a payment fee to the order, sent to Paytrail with the other lines.
Troubleshooting
  • Turn Debug on and open the payment log (System > Configuration, Files, "See the report" next to "Payment log file"): every refusal of Paytrail is written there with its reason, even with Debug off.
  • "The Paytrail payment method is not configured": type the Merchant ID and the Secret key in the payment method.
  • "The payment could not be started": Paytrail refused the payment. The reason is in the payment log; "Signature mismatch" means the Secret key does not match the Merchant ID.
  • "Paytrail only takes payments in euros": the order is in another currency. Show euros to your customers, or restrict the method to euros in its "Currency" setting.
  • "Your payment did not go through": the customer cancelled the payment, or their bank or card refused it. They can try again with another method.
  • "Your payment is being confirmed by Paytrail": the payment is not settled yet (an invoice being checked); the order is updated as soon as Paytrail tells the result.
  • Orders paid but still unconfirmed: the customer closed the page before coming back and your site is not on HTTPS, so Paytrail could not tell it. Serve your site over HTTPS.
  • "The refund was refused by Paytrail, so the order status was not changed": the reason is in the payment log, for instance when part of the payment was already refunded in the Paytrail Merchant panel. Make the rest of the refund there.
