Manual shipping methods -creating/ product pricing

I am trying to setup the manual shipping method so that the price of shipping is per product for example one book $5 two books $10 three books $15 I have set them up by using weight but instead of giving the price as per how many items, it gives all options of manual shipping. I'm not sure if this is the best way, what do you recommend.

You should indeed do like that:
have a weight of 1kg for all the products.

Then, have shipping methods like that:
from 0 to 1.5kg => $5
from 1.5 to 2.5kg => $10

Then, the system will only display the shipping methods relevant to the order of the customer.
