characteristics - visitor gives in his own values

I need a field in the charateristics of the products where the visitors can put their own values.
For example: they can chose a color but they should also give in some own letters (for a t-shirt-print).
Is there a posibility?

Yes it's possible. For that, you need to create custom fields of the table "item" via the menu Display->Custom fields with Business edition.
