NY Tax

How do I get Hika Shop to charge correct tax for books purchased to be shipped to the state of NY? Only one of our products is taxable, and only to customers in the state of NY. But NY State has multiple tax rates, depending on the location (zip code or town) within the state. How can we get Hika Shop to charge tax correctly in NY?

You'll just have to :
- Create a new zone including all the sub-zone where you want your tax to be applied
- use the "Zone" option of your tax configuration page

I'm confused; can you create a zone for tax rate purposes that's zip code specific? If so, how do we set that up?

From what we see, manage tax rates only allows you to specify 1 tax rate per state. Unfortunately, NY has multiple tax rates, depending on where you live within NY State (which can be specified by zip code). So we NEED to be able to specify tax rates by zip code within NY, or to get a plug-in that calculates NY state tax rates accurately.

You'll just have to :
- Go to "Hikashop->System->Zone"
- Use the 'New' button to create a new zone
- Save 1 time
- then configure your new zone by naming it, putting your sub-zone...

We have created zones for Zip Codes within NY, but it appears that HikaShop doesn't know how to apply them by zip code. Or, we can't figure out how to tell HikaShop to apply different tax rates depending on the zip code zone. How do we tell the program to do so?

The system it not meant to have taxes by counties (districts or whatever you call them for NY). However, it's possible to achieve it. Here is a thread which talks about that and give a solution to the problem:
