States not showing in checkout

On checkout my state is listed as a required but there are no dropdowns showing for states.

I have the impression that the "address_state" is a country zone custom field, like the "address_country" one.

You probably have to publish back the "France" zone, then change the default country to france, save, change it back to usa, save, change the default state, save, and unpublish the france zone.

I just tried to following your instructions to fan4chevy as I'm having the exact same thing but must be doing something wrong. Would either of you be able to step me through each screen and drop down please?

My default country is New Zealand and default "State" (actually City here) should be Auckland.

It's showing * in both Default value and Preview under the Display / Custom Fields / address_state i.e. state *

and on the site front end when the user gets to the registration screen it shows State *

Hi,

In System > Zones, thanks to publish back the france country.
Then in Display > Custom fields, change the value of the default country to france, save.
change the value of the state to a french one, save.
Change the value of the country again to the desired one, save.
Change the value of the state to the desired one, save.
Then go back in zone, and unpublish the france.

This should work.

I can do the first 2.

When I go into address_state to change it the Default Value has no option to select or change the state. please see the attached file



So you can see I can't select a state even if France is published in the Zone and the Default Country.

Any other ideas please?

I kept playing around with it and got up this morning and went in and out of those screens and options and somehow got it to work. I'm not sure how exactly but it is working fine now.
