Website Really Slow

My website is running really slow. I contacted my hosting platform and they stated that it was due to hikashop - see note from them below ::

" Thank you for your ticket, I did some testing on your website, and it is very slow, but it does not seem to be related to the server. It appears that this is a plugin of your hikashop plugin. You need to check and disable it temporarily and see if that helps. You will need to check each plugin and see which one is causing you this issue. I would suggest you ask your site developer to do this for you. Thank you.  Rochen Limited"

Could you all help me with this process? - Has anyone else complained of a slow site due to hika???

We had a look at your site from the outside. As a visitor, every page takes about one second before the server starts answering, and the store pages (/estore, the product pages, the checkout) are no slower than pages that have nothing to do with HikaShop, such as /events or /sign-in. So, from what we can see, HikaShop is not what slows the site down for visitors. If the slowness you notice is mostly when you are logged in, in the administrator area, or at certain times of the day, please tell us where exactly, as we cannot see those parts.

Rather than disabling plugins one by one, Joomla can tell you what takes the time:

1. In System > Global Configuration > System, set "Debug System" to Yes, and make sure the "System - Debug" plugin is enabled and its access limited to Super Users, so that only you see the debug bar.

2. While logged in on the frontend as a Super User, open a slow page. At the bottom, the debug bar shows the "Profile Information" (the time spent at each stage of the page, such as onAfterInitialise, onAfterRoute, onAfterDispatch, onAfterRender) and the "Queries" tab (every database query with its duration).

3. A stage that takes several seconds, or a query that takes more than a fraction of a second, points to the extension responsible: the query mentions its tables (hikashop_ for HikaShop, other prefixes for the other extensions).

4. Set "Debug System" back to No when you are done.

Send us a screenshot of the Profile Information and of the slowest queries if they mention HikaShop, and we will tell you what to change.

One extension worth checking first is JRealtime Analytics: each page open on your site sends a request to the server every few seconds for its live statistics, and every such request loads the whole of Joomla and writes to its tables, which also grow over time. With many visitors, or on a shared hosting plan, that alone can slow everything down. Disable it for a day (Extensions > Manage, and its system plugin) and see whether the site gets faster. If you want to keep it, empty its old statistics and lower its tracking.

On the HikaShop side, you can make sure old abandoned carts are removed, so that the cart table stays small: see "Cart retaining period" in HikaShop's configuration, www.hikashop.com/support/documentation/54-hikashop-config.html

Joomla's page cache (System > Global Configuration > System > Cache, and the "System - Page Cache" plugin for visitors who are not logged in) and your host's OPcache would speed up every page; only keep the page cache off the cart and checkout.

Finally, note that from what I understand of your hosting message, it seems they're saying that a plugin of HikaShop is slow, note that HikaShop itself is slow. It could be for example that you have an old plugin connecting to a 3rd party service and that the API it tries to connect to doesn't answer anymore and just leaves the website waiting until the timeout, slowing pages for no reason.
