Installing HikaShop Starter causes a HTTP ERROR 500

Just trying to install Hikashop Starter and I get an HTTP ERROR 500.

What is causing this?

Hi,

That's hard to say.
Try activating the "error reporting" and "debug" settings of the Joomla configuration and redo the action which lead to the 500 error. You should hopefully see an error message with more information.
If you don't, you'll have to look into the PHP error log of your server for the "fatal error" message corresponding to that 500 error.
Please report the extra information you get and we should be able to tell you what to do.

My system administrator fixed this. The error was: PHP Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in X

Ah it was during the install process ?
In that case, it means that it was stopping during the extraction of the zip file (there are a lot of files, so it takes a lot of time for PHP to extract all of them before proceeding to the installation).
For others with the same issue, an alternative to increasing the max_execution_time is to install via FTP as explained here:

This will circumvent the problem as you'll extract the files locally, upload them via FTP and then just run the install process itself on the files already uploaded. That way, the installation process will go much much faster (a few seconds) and it will work.
