Upgrade to J5

We must upgrade to Joomla 5.

Basically, there are two options to upgrade Joomla to 5.0:

Upgrade MySQL 5.7.44 to 8.1
Change the Database to MariaDB 11.1.0 from the current MySQL 5.7.44.

Our host is recommending MariaDB. Will there be any issues, if we change to MariaDB?

Hi,

MariaDB and MySQL are, by and large, identical. They have differences regarding niche things like slave/master duplication, for big companies.
For a Joomla website, it's basically the same.
Joomla actually lists both :

Regarding HikaShop, it doesn't change anything whether you use MySQL or MariaDB. HikaShop also doesn't use any advanced MySQL functions so that it can work with any version of MySQL or MariaDB.
