adding a new category; which tables are affected? was created by senor_mike
I ran into this issue when adding a new category:
When i use the joomla admin panel to add a new category, the new cat is listed for me to see.
however, when I add categories thru MySQL, I cannot view the new cats using the admin panel.
When adding a cat thru the admin panel, are other tables affected? eg. a row is inserted into another table to support the new cat. If this is the case, what are those tables?
If this isnt the problem, how can i view the cats added thru MySQL?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,
If you want to add a category directly in the database, you have to be careful to not break the b-tree.
HikaShop categories are like the Joomla categories, they are more than an id, there is a complete tree structure that should be followed.
You can read more about Joomla categories or the b-tree algorithm on joomla website or wikipedia.
