i think maybe this is the problem,
when i go to the categoires on hikashop, most of them are set to "product category" instead of the correct one (example the attached screen shot was orginally set to "lighting" category)

as you can see there is an error message coming up when i change it and try saving.
Same thing happen on the other categories as well.

Hi,

Do you mean for the parent category option ?
Could you try to use the "Rebuild" button in the toolbar on the category listing page in backend and then try to save again ?

The issue is due to the override you have on the view "category / listing". I tried to remove it and it then worked as expected.
I put it back to your version, but please consider to do a backup remove the override and port back your modifications.

i did that as well and it still did not work, and yeah i mean the paretn category option, it just won't let me change it from "product category"

Hi,

Go in the menu Display>Views and search for the view file. Then, in the "remove customization" column, you'll find a x icon that you can use to delete the override on the view file.

Hi,

@wolfhome:
I just tried to create a new category and set a parent category, no issues. Everything seems to be working as expected.
After looking deeply at your screenshot, I see that you were trying to apply the current category as main category.
You category is "Lighting" and you were selecting "Lighting" as parent category, that can't work ;)

I understand what you mean and i realise that after i posted, however the problem still exist on the front end where the categories are not displaying at all.

Products display ok, but now categories, if you click on any of the main category on my menu you will see it's coming up blank.

What is the menu used in backend to display the content ? You have a lot of menus actually. ;)

Hi,

After a lot of debug, views modifications, etc.
I saw that it was only a css property which were hiding the content:

#tz-component .hikashop_categories_listing_main .hikashop_subcategories_listing .hikashop_subcategories { display: none; }
In your template.css file line 6847...

So please remove this display:none; property.
