Hi,
When you are on a category listing menu item, all the pages of the menu item use the same settings. So whether it displays the sub categories of the main parent, or the sub categories of one of the sub categories of the main parent, it still use the sam display settings.
However, another thing to consider is that if you create child category listing menu items of that menu item with their main category setting pointing respectively to the different sub categories of the main category of the main menu item, the system will automatically switch to these sub menu items when you click on a sub category of the main category. And thus, that way, you can configure differently the display of the category listings, but that require some extra work to create the necessary menu items.
