Custom Fields "Required" Status Ignored

I have many custom fields for products on a conference registration website. With the recent HikaShop update, the "required" status is being ignored. Previously, error messages would display next to the required fields the customer had skipped. This is how I need it to work.

Now, if the customer hits "add to cart" without filling out all (or any) required fields, the customer is redirected to the index page of the cart, and the error message "The cart is empty" is displayed.

Can you check if the "cart notification" plugin is enabled in the Joomla plugins manager and provide a screenshot of its settings ?
