How to remove add to cart on custom prices.

I have one product that has a custom price field. The category display for this included an "add to cart" button. When pressing this button, it adds to the cart but adds 0 to the cart because the field has not been filled in on the details page. How can I remove or hide this add-to-cart button from the category display of a custom-price product?

If you turn on the "required" setting of your custom field, the add to cart button will be removed from the listing automatically for the products with that custom field if the listing is configured to not display custom fields (which is the case based on what you're saying).
