I would like to create an online store that sells paintings. I would like the paintings to remain in the online store after the sale with a "sold" sign and in such a way that the painting cannot be purchased again. What is the easiest way to solve this?

Just set a "quantity" of "1" in each product. That way, when the product is purchased, its stock will go to 0 and it won't be purchasable anymore. However, if the "out of stock" display setting of your menu items is turned on, then the products will still be listed on the shop, and instead of the "add to cart" button, the customers will see an "out of stock" message.
