first i would like to ask if this plugin is compatible with Joomla! 5 and hikashop 5.1.6?

except that now i use pre order plugin. So if use also use Variants quantity synchronization plugin the final quantity of the stock product will be the sum of them;

Yes, the plugin is compatible with Joomla 5 and the latest version of HikaShop.
We didn't update it in 5 years because it didn't need any update.

The plugin should work fine with the pre order plugin too, although I've never tested that combination myself. Looking at how both plugins work, I think it should be fine. Note however that the plugin won't synchronize the pre order stock.

yes indeed, no issues until now.

In existing products I found that I have to erase the total quantity, e.g. I put zero, save the product and then it perceives and adds up the variants quantity. is there another way?

You might be able to do it with just a mass action with a filter on the product column "product_type" being equal to "main" and an action "update the values" on the column "product_quantity" with the value "0" in "int" mode.
When running, it should do both actions automatically on all the products.
Note that you also have the limitations area which will limit the number of products processed at once. You can increase the number from 500 to a few thousands, but if you have more products, you'll have to run the mass action in batches.

You want to increase the "value" from 500 to 1000 under the Limitations area.
The rest is ok.

I would recommend to make a backup, just in case, before running the mass action. Normally, it should go fine, but you can never know for sure.

Good grief, why is this plugin not installed and active by default. I mean who wouldn't want it. I have spent a couple of hours this evening trying to figure out how do this.

Well, there are many cases where you don't want the quantity of the main product to be set to the sum of the quantities of the variants.
For example, suppose you are selling books. Each product is a book, and each one has two variants: ebook and physical book. The physical book variant might need to have a limited stock while the ebook and the main product can be set to unlimited.
Also, even without the plugin, if you set the main product quantity manually first, it will be updated when variants of the product are sold.
But yes, in many cases where you need to have the stock in both the variants and in the main product, this plugin is really great to have.
