Promotion based on a value of the order

I would like to give a promotion that offers free shipping for orders over a certain amount of money.
Is that possible?
If yes, what would be the best way to go about it?

The easier would be to use the restriction on the shipping methods.

Thanks to min/max you can have a free shipping method which will be displayed only once a specific amount is reach. And the other shipping methods will be removed thanks to the max amount.

I have tried the restrictions but I keep getting an error message when the restriction is reached.
I must be doing something wrong and that is why I thought maybe there is something else.

This means that shipping method method was found.
You should have one shipping method with a price of 0 and a "minimum price" restriction of the amount for the "free shipping case".
