Price per Product Surchage for USPS not working on variants

I've selected the Price per Product option in the USPS shipping plugin and it seems to be working fine for all items that do not have a variant. The ones that do, the surcharge of $5 is not being added in to the shipping cost.
What am I missing?

Did you configured a weight and dimensions for your variants or for the main product of these variants ?
Your issue is probably coming from it, but can you show us some screenshots of how you configured your USPS shipping methods and the products/variants dimensions/weight that you used for your test ?

I configured both the main product and variants with weights and dimensions. in the attached image the product weight/dim is first then the variant.
