Error Building Admins Menu

Wonder if anyone can help?

On installing Hikashop I get the message "Error building Admins Menu" and Hikashop does not appear under the Components menu in the Backend as it has done in the past.

For some reason the components menu in Joomla seems to often loose items and I have no idea why!

Any help in getting into Hikashop without the menu item would be useful.

That's a bug in joomla 1.6 actually. That's why it happens to you for other components as well.
Prior to installing an extension, you should go in your phpmyadmin and open the table jos_menus and delete the entries corresponding to your component. Then, the install should work.

where can I get into phpmyadmin? sorry I'm not an expert in this matter!!

phpmyadmin should be provided by your hosting. If you don't know how to access it you should ask them. Here is a tutorial on how to use phpmyadmin in general:

Hi, Nicola i got into phpmyadmin area and removed all the hika components from jos_menu tables but I'm still getting this message when installing it "
Error building Admin Menus Component Install: DB function reports no
errors"

All the information I could fine on internet regarding that error say to delete the com_hikashop entries from the jos_menu table via phpmyadmin and then reinstall.
